Welcome to Hold the MSG! We will be posting weekly lessons in Mandarin for kids. Lessons will be brief and teach key concepts. There are associated handouts for each lesson if you want to practice writing the Mandarin characters we learn. For this week’s handout, click here or click on the Handouts tab in the menu bar.
We are still suffering from jet lag and fighting sleep-deprivation-related sniffles, but nevertheless, here is our first lesson: Greetings.
We hope you enjoy learning with us!

ni hao! (I can’t make the tone marks on my computer… but I did learn where to put them!!! I loved your lessons!!! It was especially wonderful to hear the Mandarin-speaking residents say the words, and then hear you and your children saying the words. Very nice, Carey!!! You are so amazing…

Thanks, Lorri! All our Chinese friends and acquaintances were very good-hearted about pitching in to help. Many of the shots were taken at our local market.

Love your new blog! and Abby and Matt love it too. They were trying to say Ni Hao all week long – it was very cute. Abby remembers you all and is Thankful for you every night. She wants to come visit you “for a sleep over” – lol – but doesn’t understand the distance we would have to travel. She looks forward to your video every week.
You’re totally welcome for a sleepover! So glad you are all enjoying the site. Say “hi” to them for us–oh sorry, say “ni hao” to them for us.
